A Quiet Shift: Why I’m Changing Direction on YouTube
If you’ve followed my YouTube channel for a while, you’ll know it started with a focus on morning pages, journaling, notebooks, and all things creative reflection. For me, it was honest and grounding — and it seemed to strike a chord with others, too.
But lately, things have shifted.
In life.
In work.
And in what I feel called to share.
In recent years — and especially the last 18 months — I’ve gone through a number of changes. I started feeling the effects of mid-life in my early to mid-40s, and that experience has continued to unfold in surprising ways.
These days, I find I’m asking different questions. Not so much “How do I get more done?” but “Why am I doing any of this?” It’s a shift from productivity to purpose. And it feels like a natural evolution of what the channel was always about.
So I’ve decided to lean into that.
The channel is now called Martin Sketchley’s Mid-Life Crocus — a quiet nod to renewal, growth, and second chances. And the fact that midlife can be a golden age — we just have to embrace it.
I’m shifting gears, returning to an audio-first storytelling approach, supported by whiteboard animation. The focus will be on themes I think many of us are grappling with:
- Mid-life clarity
- Creative courage
- Slowing down to move forward
- Unlearning what no longer serves us
- Remembering who we are, where we are, and where we want to be (or figuring these things out as we go!)
It’s not a crisis. It’s a quiet rebellion.
It’s an opportunity for growth.
It’s a new spring.
If you’re somewhere along this path yourself — or just curious about it all — then I’d love to have you along.
A new video will go live this coming Saturday, May 24, at 15:00BST / 10:00EDT.
Don’t miss it!
Thanks, as ever, for being here.
Let’s see what’s next.
Martin
