I’m taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Sober October. I saw it promoted on TV and thought I’d take part. I’m not a big drinker, but this is for a great cause, and we all know somebody who’s been affected. Maybe you could consider sponsoring me, or signing up yourself.
I recently launched Think Feel Write. Studies show that expressive or reflective writing can help us find direction, reduce stress, and have both short- and long-term health benefits. Visit the site to find out more.
I’m writing every day, journaling privately, making notes on the world, etc. All writerly stuff, but in a world that seems to revolve around sharing, not everything has to be, or should be.
I’m preparing for the new academic year with the Royal Literary Fund. I’ll be the RLF Writing Fellow at De Montfort University one day a week, and an Advisory Fellow, mentoring some of the RLF’s new intake. I love my work with the RLF.
I’m reading a lot. At the moment I’m reading Bad Seed: The Biography of Nick Cave by Ian Johnston. Among other books I’ve read recently are Anything You Want… by Derek Sivers (as a result of which I created this now page), and Rework: Change the Way You Work Forever by Jason Fried and David Hansson. I’ve also enjoyed Between the Stops… by Sandi Toksvig.
Outside work, I’ve picked up the guitar again, and am working on songs to perform with Mrs Sketchley, and our old friend Lloyd.
